Abstract

Comparative study of temperature dependences of the Raman spectra of rhombohedral antiferromagnetic LaMnO3 (TN ≈ 150 K) and ferromagnetic magnetoresistive La0.98Mn0.96O3 (Tc ≈ 200 K) confirms the assignment of the two broad high frequency Raman bands to dynamical Jahn-Teller lattice distortions and allows to monitor the variations of distortion amplitudes and polaronic lifetime through the insulator-metal transition in La0.98Mn0.96O3.
