Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to implement the bioimpedance system based on a digital signal processor chip (DSP) (ADSP-2101, Analog Device Corp.) and personal computer (PC) with digital and modular design approaches for monitoring the respiratory and cardiac parameters. The overall system contains a digital EPROM (eraseable programmable read-only-memory) oscillator, 8 independent current generators, a voltmeter with digital demodulation, an amplifier, an I/O interface and friendly man-machine interface through PC. Information such as respiratory flow (RF), respiratory rate (RR), tidal volume (TV), heart rate (HR), cardiac output (CO), stroke volume (SV), and electrocardiograph (ECG) are real-time presented on the personal computer monitor.
