Reduction of fibroblast contraction on crosslinked hyaluronan-collagen matrices

Abstract

Hyaluronan is found in high concentration during embryogenesis and was suggested to play a major role to prevent scar formation in fetal wounds. We have developed a floating collagen gel contraction model to evaluate the effects of hyaluronan. We have found that immersing collagen gels in high concentrations of hyaluronan greatly inhibited the contraction of the gels by fibroblasts.
