Reference-less ultra-low-power wake-up receiver with noise suppression

Abstract

A reference-less ultra-low-power wake-up receiver (WuRx) is proposed. The WuRx features a high-sensitivity RF envelope detector with a double-sampling technique to suppress noise, as well as clock and data recovery (CDR) circuitry for input synchronized-switching clock generation. With no power-hungry RF amplifiers or local oscillators, the power consumption is significantly reduced. For an operating frequency of 2.4 GHz, the WuRx has a power consumption of 10 μW and a sensitivity of -54 dBm for a 200 kbps data rate. A prototype device is designed and fabricated in 90-nm CMOS technology with a chip area of 1.0 × 0.95 mm2.
