A 5-year-old girl was admitted to our hospital with a 7-day history of left periorbital swelling and proptosis. B-mode orbital ultrasonography and computed tomography scanning revealed bilateral paranasal sinusitis and an inferior orbital subperiosteal abscess of the left eye. We performed endoscopic sinus surgery to drain the subperiosteal abscess on the third day of admission. During the operation, B-mode orbital ultrasonography was used for evaluating the effect of drainage. Rapid resolution of the signs and symptoms was noted after surgery. The patient recovered quickly and discharged on the third postoperative day. We conclude that an inferior orbital subperiosteal abscess can be drained satisfactorily by using an endoscopic procedure. Additionally, B-mode orbital ultrasonography can provide excellent monitoring for the results of drainage.
