Abstract

This work presents a systematic approach for synthesizing planar five-bar linkages with five prescribed precision positions. Governing equations are derived by complex number method based on the concept of dyad and triad. All numerical solutions are obtained by continuation method. Those with branch problems are eliminated by computer simulation. Practical solutions are obtained by an optimization algorithm subject to the design constraints of transmission angles, link-length, and rotating inputs.
