Abstract

In this paper an analysis is put forward for the operation of an oscillating water column (OWC) that is segmented and it explores the design necessary to produce a 1 kW device using a multi-stage Savonius rotor turbine; hence it investigates the limits of this device. In the first part of the paper the theory of operation is developed. Then a small test OWC device is developed as a base unit. The turbines are tested to verify their maximum performance. This underpins the theoretic design from the first part of the paper.
