Abstract
The effect of BiTaO4 addition on the sintering behavior and microwave properties in BiNbO4 ceramics was studied. Ta was used to substitute Nb to adjust small temperature coefficient of resonate frequency (τf) and improve high quality factor (Q * f) values. The dielectric constant saturates at 44-45 in spite of the amount of Ta. The Q * f reaches a maximum value of 21,000 GHz for BiNb0.4Ta0.6O4 ceramic sintered at 940 °C for 3 h. The τf can be adjusted from 15 ppm °C-1 to 40 ppm °C-1 by varying the Ta content from 0 to 1. A zero τf value can be obtained by properly adjusting the Ta content.
