Abstract

The mathematical model of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells is used to simulate the output voltages and currents of PEM fuel cells in this paper. The purpose of this paper is to study the feasibility of using the output voltages and currents of PEM fuel cells as auxiliary power in ships. Moreover, this paper uses a dc-to-ac power converter to convert the dc voltage to ac voltage and step up the ac voltage to 120 volts through a transformer for supplying to the loads of a ship. Meanwhile, the effects of loads changes on the power generation of PEM fuel cells are investigated.
