Abstract

In general, the control objective of a batch crystallization process can be considered as achieving a specific value of a predefined performance index, such as the average product crystal size. A feedback control strategy, based on the idea of one-step iteration, was adopted for this purpose. Both open- and closed-loop simulation studies were carried out to demonstrate the feasibility of this approach. The results show satisfactory and expected improvement when compared with the programmed cooling/evaporative operations.
