Abstract
Feasibility of pumping the terahertz spin-flip maser by spin-polarized tunneling is investigated and the conditions for the population inversion and threshold current are established. At low temperatures (T < 30 K) lasing in the 50 μm range of wavelengths with an output power of the order of 1 mW is anticipated when a magnetic field of 1 T and a current density of 50 kA cm-2 are applied.
