SPS-ESPRIT for joint DOA and polarization estimation with a COLD array

Abstract

In this paper, we address a one-dimensional (1-D) Estimation of Signal Parameter via Rotational Invariance Technique (ESPPIT)-based algorithm, referred to as the SPS-ESPRIT, to jointly estimate the directions of arrival (DOAs) and polarization of the incoming plane waves with a co-centered orthogonal loop and dipole (COLD) array. The proposed algorithm makes use of two spatial (S)-ESPRIT and one polarization (P)-ESPRIT algorithms alternatively to estimate the DOAs and polarizations, respectively, in a coarse-fine manner. Also, spatial beamforming processes are invoked in between the S-ESPRIT and P-ESPRIT to enhance the estimation accuracy. Conducted simulations show that the proposed algorithm, with low computation complexity, provides satisfactory performance.
