Abstract

Various aspects of a discrete system with a viscoelastic damping element with a negative stiffness elements were discussed. A reverse directional relationship between load and deformation was entailed by negative stiffness and the imposed deformation caused an assisting force. Tuning process was used for the demonstration of the extreme behavior in the composites. Analysis shows that the singularity in damping was made arbitrarily close to the stability boundary.
