Abstract
The structural properties of the subscapularis (SCP), supraspinatus (SSP) and infraspinatus (ISP) tendons of the rotator cuff were studied. The properties indicated the passive restraint mechanism for preventing shoulder subluxation and dislocation. Results showed that when the humerus is abducted and externally rotated, the low stiffness and ultimate load in the inferior region of the SCP tendon would facilitate anterior shoulder dislocation.
