Abstract

Full structure determinations of (La1-xMx)2CuO4-δ (M=Sr and Ba), La2CuO4 and M'Ba2Cu3O7-δ (M'=Y, Ho and Dy) are carried out by X-ray four circle diffraction. The structures of (La1-xMx)2CuO4-δ crystal specimens (x≃0.075 and δ≃0) which exhibit superconductivity are K2NiF4-type ones with CuO6 ochtahedra. The Sr compound is tetragonal (I4/mmm) and the Ba compound is orthorhombic (Pccn) characterized by the rotation of CuO6. This rotation is different from that observed in La2CuO4. All the present specimens of M'Ba2Cu3O7-δ, which are found to be semiconducting, are tetragonal with P4/mmrn and the δ values are close to 1.0. Their structures are perovskite-related ones with the c axis triplicated due to the ordering of Ba and Y (Ho and Dy).
