Abstract

A new atomic model of the Si3N4(0001)/Si(111)-(8×8) surfaces based on the experimental results from KEH, STM, and STS measurements is proposed. The existence of the 8/3 × 8/3-ordered nitrogen adatoms on the top layer and the 8×8 diamond-shaped unit cells in real space is demonstrated.
