Abstract

Velocity measurements were conducted in very steep open-channel flows over smooth and rough beds. The channel slopes were changed from 1.2° to 14.0° by steps while the flow depths were retained to be 15 mm. As a result, the flows was all supercritical and the Froude number varied from 2.0 to 7.2. The velocity-distribution laws, such as logarithmic law, Coles' velocity-defect law, power law and Hama's velocity-defect law, were examined in more detail.
