Symmetry-breaking induced transport in the vicinity of a magnetic island

Abstract

The symmetry-breaking induced-transport flux in tokamaks in the vicinity of a magnetic island was calculated. It was found that the symmetry of the equilibrium magnetic-field strength is broken due to the finite width of the islands. Results showed that magnetic islands can break the equilibrium symmetry in the magnetic field strength. This symmetry breaking led to enhance transport in the vicinity of the island.
