Abstract
This paper presents an approach for the synthesis of four-bar function generators subjected to the constraints of transmission angles and the lengths of links. The sum of the square of the structural errors of the angular displacement of the output link is taken as the objective function. The constrained flexible polyhedron method is suggested to be applied for the synthesis of the mechanisms. This approach not only can avoid the difficulties caused by the approaches of using the sum of the square of the displacement function as the objective function, but also can obtain the solutions more accurately than using other methods.
