Abstract
Phase relations and melting temperatures in the PbF2-BiF3 system were studied by solid state reactions and DTA. A fluorite-type phase Pb1-xBixF2+x with 0<x<0.5, and a tysonite-type phase Bi1-yPbyF3-y with 0.5<y<0.25 are formed with deviation of ±0.05 at temperatures 500~700°C. A maximum-melting point was seen at Pb1-xBixF2+x. The maximum-melting point and the maximum-ionic conductivity in fluorite-type solid solutions appear to be about the same composition. We discussed the possibility of ordered phase at low temperatures thermodynamically.
