The Assessment of Generation Z's Acceptance of Technology-Enhanced Public Bicycle-Sharing System in the Construction of Smart Mobility Through Student-Centricity Solutions in NCKU Campus in Response to Tainan Urban District Railway Underground Project

The Tainan Urban District Railway Underground Project, launched in March 2017 in Tainan City, Taiwan, is an ongoing initiative aimed at transforming the railway from surface level to underground. The Railway Underground Project offers an opportunity for National Cheng Kung University (NCKU), which is located in the vicinity of the railway station, to propose solutions to the problems of traffic congestion, air pollution, and other issues caused by urbanization. This study proposed that the idea of a smart city and sharing economy could help the university resolve these problems. The public bicycle-sharing system (YouBike) could be a feasible solution. We invited NCKU students to solve the above-mentioned problem around the campus. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the technology acceptance of Generation Z students at NCKU on the usage of the technologically enhanced public bicycle-sharing system. This research conducted a survey experiment to understand students' attitudes and intentions toward the usage of YouBike and investigate the determinants that affect intentions to use YouBike. The regression analysis results indicate that perceived usefulness notably impacts students' attitudes positively, whereas perceived ease of use significantly influences students' intentions. This study suggested future research to incorporate more explanatory variables, such as weather, green awareness, and cultural factors. We further recommended government and public administration inform and educate the public about the economic and environmental benefits of using public sharing transportation to increase and promote the usage of public sharing bikes. Additionally, the cultural factors, that affect the habits of using public and sharing transportation, need to be taken into account when promoting transportation policies.
