Abstract

GPS car navigation sensor system provides great assistance to drivers by informing their immediate location, direction and roads information, and for that it is now a popular product among the large number of devices on board. However, potential danger brought by distractions during screen browsing or data input could lead to accidents. For this reason, the standardization of design principles and development of the most suitable solutions have been very important in designing GPS-based car navigation sensor system, besides the clarification on factors influencing driving safety. This study focuses on the placement of GPS sensor unit and its screen size. The best result for reducing driving distraction and improving driving safety is summarized through experiments to provide a reference for car designers.
