Abstract

In this work, we demonstrate a 3-D crossing microchannel to redeploy droplet concentration using passive droplet fission and fusion. The droplet splits into two droplets of varied proportion on passing through the 3-D crossing microchannel. Then, fusion of the two separate droplets with varied volumes generates a merged droplet with a specific concentration. Through modification of the flow rates of the two inlets and the volumes of droplets therefrom, the concentration of a droplet was readily controlled over a wide range.
