Thermal conductivity of high-Tc oxides

Abstract

The thermal conductivity of La2-xSrxCuO4 and La2-xBaxCuO4 has been measured. In the small x region, the thermal current is considered to be mainly carried by phonons, while for x>0.3 in La2-xSrxCuO4, the contribution of the electron carriers becomes dominant. For La1.88Ba0.12CuO4, the enhancement of the thermal conductivity is observed below the transition temperature from the orthorohmbic to the low temperature tetragonal phase, which may be due to the decrease of the carrier number. The anisotropy of the thermal conductivity has also been studied for YBa2Cu3O6.7 and Nd2CuO4 single crystals.
