Abstract

This study established a three dimensional finite element mesh model of human L3 spine with more realistic approximation in the geometry and bone material properties distributions. Different levels of osteoporosis were simulated by reducing the elastic modulus of the cortical shell and spongy bone to determine the mechanisms for lumbar spine fracture.
