Abstract
Velocity variation in randomly heterogeneous porous media results in a travel-distance-dependent macrodispersion coefficient, which is in contrast to the constant value of the dispersion coefficient used in the classical advective-dispersion equation for solute transport modeling. We derive the general analytical expression for the macrodispersion coefficient in two dimensional, randomly heterogeneous porous media. The expressions derived here are valid for any statistically isotropic log-hydraulic conductivity correlation function. Results are presented for several frequently used correlation functions of log-conductivity and serve to fill the gap between existing stochastic theory and practical applications.
