Abstract
Spline geometries representing airfoil shapes have been found to present difficulties in manufacturing compatibility with design. This paper highlights these problems and discusses a solution to the problem of profile matching. A spline geometry system has been developed to simulate the design iteraction process with manufacturability as the criterion. The paper reports the results of a study of the effects of design knots and tolerance on the manufactured profile. A procedure to integrate design and manufacturing data for the production of spline profiles such as the turbine blade section is presented.
