Abstract

Ultra-High Performance Concrete (UHPC) has mechanical properties that are several times better than traditional concrete. At the same time, the dense packing density and crack resistance substantially enhance its durability. Consequently, harmful gas and liquid are not able to invade the interior of the concrete, thus increasing the service life of UHPC structural members. In addition, UHPC can be combined with innovative retrofitted methods, such as shotcrete technology, bracing, infilled columns, shear walls, and prefabricated jackets, to improve the seismic capacity of non-ductile structures. The use of UHPC in a structural member can reduce transverse reinforcement and crosssection, thus simplifying the construction. This paper briefly summarizes the mechanical behavior, durability properties of UHPC and introduces the applications of UHPC in structural engineering.
