Ultrasonic prenatal fetal biometry in Taiwan

Research output: Contribution to journalReview articlepeer-review

Abstract

Prenatal fetal biometry (PFB) by ultrasound has become one of the major branches of medicine in Taiwan over the last 40 years. Successful education by the Society of Ultrasound in Medicine of the Republic of China, and competition in the academic and medical fields has established PFB by ultrasound as the most important field in obstetrics and gynecology. With the advent of the latest ultrasonography equipment, reports of the use of transvaginal color flow mapping and high-resolution three-dimensional ultrasonography have been published. This report addresses the need for Chinese PFB, and proposes that the Taiwanese population is the most appropriate. In addition, this paper reassesses the literature on Chinese PFB by ultrasound in Taiwan. Furthermore, the critical points of PFB analysis are addressed. With the possible future link with molecular medicine and its strong basis, Chinese PFB in Taiwan will contribute to the field of human medicine.
