Abstract

A layer of intensive plastic deformation in which the structure of material is very different from that in the bulk often appears in the vicinity of frictional interfaces in metal forming processes. The objectives of this paper are to propose a conceptual approach for predicting the thickness of this layer and to carry out a parametric study of plane strain extrusion with the use of the approach proposed.
