Abstract

The paper presents an extension of a previous work and deals with an investigation of the effect of elastic links, transverse clearance and wave heading on the vertical and lateral motions between two identical ships. The analysis employs a linear strip method of ship motion with restraint of surging motions. The elastic links are assumed to be horizontal in transverse planes, weightless and only linearly deformable in the axial direction. A systematic numerical analysis was carried out. An important finding was that the effect of the hydrodynamic interaction was significant especially on the vertical motions, whereas the effect of the elastic links was notable on the lateral motions.
