The method of transfer matrix is employed to study the mode frequencies and their corresponding mode shapes of a multi-span beam. The method of modal analysis is presented. Steady state forced vibration shows that the displacement spectrum at the exciting point obtained by the method is comparable to that obtained by the method of transfer matrix. Furthermore, these two spectrums show that peaks occur at the mode frequencies of the beam.
