Vibration analysis of multispan beams subjected to moving loads using the finite element method

Abstract

The combination of finite element technique and Newmark method is employed for studying the vibration of multispan beams subjected to two moving loads, which are: uniformly distributed force and one-axle vehicle. Results show that the phenomenon and tendency of the distribution for both the dynamic magnification factor and the position of maximum deflection versus the velocity ratio are similar for these two kinds of loads. Furthermore, there is a critical velocity at which the deflection becomes large.
