Abstract

A new numerical approach for solving the vibration of a beam resting on an elastic foundation is proposed. The approach uses the differential quadrature (DQ) to discretize the differential eigenvalue equation defined on each element, the transition conditions defined on the inter-element boundary of two adjacent elements and the boundary conditions of the beam. It is the differential quadrature element method (DQEM) analysis model of the vibration of beams resting on elastic foundations. Numerical results obtained are presented. They prove that the developed DQEM analysis model is efficient and reliable.
