Wave climate on the coastal area of Taiwan strait

Abstract

It is the major purpose to gather sufficient data of wave climate to support the requirement of large-scale construction in coastal water. From the results obtained, it is found that, in Taiwan Strait, the action of monsoon plays an important role in the statistic characteristics of wave height and period. The wave height and wave period in winter are higher than that in summer. At the same time, it also shows a character of Rayleigh distribution in summer while it is a Normal distribution in winter. There exits a twin-peaks distribution during the transition stage. However, the distributions of wave period in these duration are rather coincident with each other and are Normal distributions.
