Abstract

Wave driven fast ion loss in the National Spherical Torus Experiment was analyzed. Two classes of instabilities were found to be responsible for the losses. Simultaneously bursting modes in the Toroidal Alfvén eigenmode frequency gap caused neutron drops of up to 15%.
