Abstract

The present paper is an attempt to see if long term structures of atmospheric electrical phenomena exist, and if so, how do they correlate with other climatic variables. The author consulted ancient Chinese historical sources to look for records pertaining to lightnings, thunders, or thunderstorms. There are numerous such records but not all of them are useful. It turned out that the most useful records are those pertaining to thunders in winter. Subjects covered include winter thunder records in ancient Chinese chronicles, cause of winter thunder-cold climate relationship, and others. Refs.
