Abstract

Stress is an unavoidable problem in our busy and diverse lives. Ignoring stress will cause unusual biological reactions. If more can be learned about levels of stress and how to relieve this stress, we will be able to prevent disease.
Many biological signals of the human body can be discovered by electronic medical equipment. Photoplethysmography (PPG) and Electrodermal Activity (EDA) are two signals which are both unrestricted by body type and can be easily detected. This work studies the changes of biological signals under various levels of stress by using PPG and EDA. The first step of our experiment is to find eight participants, designated as the no-stress group by stress scale, who are then given different levels of mental arithmetic tasks. Variations in stress levels are found by analyzing the physiological signals. Finally, the physiological signals of nine participants are measured. The system will evaluate the level of stress and the results will be compared with the stress scale to validate the accuracy of the system.
According to the experimental results, the stress evaluation system can obtain a 77.7% degree of precision and 83.07% degree of correlation. Therefore, our system is precise in evaluating stress.
