Abstract

The purpose of the study is to explore the basic abilities for the directors of division in elementary schools. A well-designed questionnaire is employed in this investigation. The subjects, the principals, the directors and the chiefs of the division, are randomly selected from the elementary schools in Kaohsiung City, Kaohsiung County and Pington County. Four hundred and seventy-two valid questionnaires will be analyzed through the methods of T-test, one-way ANOVA, and two-way ANOVA. It is hoped to provide educators and directors a referential guide to elevate their professional abilities.

The finding shows:
(I) Senior staff attaches more important to the interpersonal relations than junior staff does.
(II) Senior staff pays more attentions in administration management abilities than junior staff does.
(III) Senior staff values the teaching and leading abilities more than the junior staff does.
(IV) Senior staff emphasizes the importance of the professional education abilities more than the junior staff does.
(V) Principals and directors attach more important to the administration management abilities than teachers do.
(VI) Principals and directors pay more attentions to the teaching and leading abilities than teachers do.
(VII) Principals and directors emphasize the professional education abilities more than teachers do.
Suggestions:
Suggestions for the reference of educational organizations and academic administration:
(I) Establish the concrete standards of selecting directors of division.
(II) Draw up a well-designed curriculum and in-service training for directors of division.
(III) Build up an institution for the professional development of the directors of division.
(IV) Set up an evaluation system of the directors of the division.
(V) Establish a guidance system for inaugurated directors of the division.
(VI) Set up the turn- and- turn about system for the administrative management.

Suggestions for the directors of the division:
(I) Understand the change and elevate the level
(II) Act in accordance with the system and improve the professional abilities.
(III) Establish personal file and grow up through constantly reflection.
(IV) Learn on and 0ff campus and elevate educational concept.
