Abstract

In the traditional society, people tend to regard motherhood as a woman who has to devote herself to the family members or sacrifice her own achievement to fulfill the goal of her family. Feminist gave “motherhood” negative criticism because of the conflict between raising children and self-fulfillment. Recently, motherhood writing becomes a trend because feminists put motherhood into practice themselves and reexamine motherhood. They begin to think of the meaning of lives and motherhood by writing in the style of essays or novels.
A family is not a jail, motherhood is not a constraint and a dream is no longer so far away for people to reach. Bubu Tsai spread out a new area of motherhood. She puts motherhood into practice and achieves her own dream as well. Thus she establishes her fame as a parental education expert. This thesis tries to analyze the meanings and differences of motherhood between Tsai’s work and feminist.
The factors of the forming background of motherhood are discussed in Chapter 1. Then the definitions of motherhood are stated. The main idea of this chapter tries to discuss that when a woman has the insight of self-awareness and integrates the value of herself, how can she keep the way of fulfilling motherhood and maintain the integrity of self-aware motherhood?
Chapter 2 tries to discuss self-aware motherhood writing in Taiwan. This chapter discusses the experience of struggling between self-awareness and motherhood by taking Lily Hsueh,Lung Yingtai,and Jian Jen’s works as examples. We can see the changes of life, the processes of development, and the ways of carrying out self-aware motherhood in the three writers’ works. They respectively originated different kinds of motherhood writing styles and thus showed multidimensional self-aware motherhood writing and gave it a new appearance in Taiwanese literature.
Chapter 3 tries to discuss the self-aware motherhood of Bubu Tsai’s style by analyzing the motivation and progress of fulfilling motherhood. The affections of her original family and support from her family can explain for her motivation. She gets rid of the myth of a full-time mother by looking after both raising children and doing her work well. The process of devoting herself to the self-aware motherhood has led her to the spectacular awareness of feminist.
The range of Bubu Tsai’s expanding motherhood is discussed in chapter 4. She leads the little chefs to practice and make motherhood take a place on the stage of education. She puts the idea, Life Is Education, Education Is Life, into practice and has enormous success.
In the end, Chapter 5 concludes with a few suggestions for further studies in this field.
