Abstract

Martin Parr (1952/5/23-) is a British documentary photographer. In 1994, he became a member of Magnum Photos and was elected chairman in 2014. His photographs detail the daily life, which is easy to understand but rich in playfulness, especially using the bright and colorful colors to record the social class in England. The important photographic history includes black and white photography in the 1970s, focusing on rural and isolated agricultural communities; color photography and social documentary observations of the labor class and the middle class that opened in the 1980s; The flourishing development of capitalism and global consumerism in the 1990s under the change of international tourism patterns capture the social culture which is like a landscape; after 2000, the media and cross-border cooperation have become a photographer with international leadership and walking around the boundaries of consumer culture at the same time.
The Last Resort, published in 1986, used the epoch-making color photography as a medium to create a new revolution in British documentary photography at the time. Parr's works combine the popular culture and political understanding of his environment, just like the ignorance and humor of mass tourism, the spiritual crisis of the middle and lower classes etc. They all are his concern. The documentary photography presented to us is seemingly loose, but usually, it is a devastated environmental world. Pressing the shutter " The Decisive Moment" is a British-style sense of humour, abrupt contrast and ridicule. This thesis studies the style and development of Martin Parr's photographic works, discusses the process of Parr's change of British documentary photography, and sorts out the historical context of relevant documentary photography. Through these photographs and the artist's creative context, the photographic works are focused on image analysis to clarify the unique iconic images of Martin Parr's photographs. In addition, Guy Debord's "Scene Society" theory is used to explore the social time and space background of "leisure, consumption and communication" and photography to analyze the personal gaze angle of his photographs, his style, and theme selection.
