Huang, Bi-Yung’s fierce yet tender descriptions of lives and affections sets a distinctive style in the literary field. In the setting of a repressed Hong Kong in 1997, a transition time of sovereignty, she talked about the love, the hatred and the passion of its people. The main concept of this thesis is to observe how feminine fighting against authority of family and country, struggling through their miserable destiny, and communicating to their own subject, under the crucifying society.
There are six chapters in this thesis. The first chapter is preface. The content of the second chapter is to analysis how, what to write about women, and why write in that way by the opinion and faith of Huang, Bi-Yung's creation. Connecting three important concepts,"the history of the city", "self-consciousness", "body & lust", with feminine as heart, the next three chapters draw the writing achievements to organize and construct entire feminine's fate of Huang, Bi-Yung. Chapter three connects the experience of the city and imagination by feminine history, to sketch the process of struggling, shouldering, fighting, and being reborn of feminine spirit. Chapter four based on the three-steps theory of feminine history mentioned by Elaine Showalter, analyze the progress from feminine innocence, discovering feminist thought, to embracing female field of vision. The fifth chapter records the change of love and lust by feminine body. It changes from depressing by the attaching of man, painful distorting of over-open mind, ending in discussing the possibility of union of love and lust. The last chapter conclude the research and achievement written in this thesis about the feminine subjects of Huang, Bi-Yung.
