Abstract

The famous novelist YiJun Luo’s sole poetry collection The Story of Chi was written during his college years. Starting from the situation of being “abandoned,” he profoundly illustrates such mentality with its origin far back in the history by intertwining the unique perspective of narrative writings originally employed in his novels with the genre of poem. Chapter One of the present essay integrates the creation, importance, and significance of The Story of Chi in the present era, collates a literature review on the essays that have discussed this piece of work, and subsequently puts forward research methods and structure of the chapters for accounting its literary devices. Chapter Two is about the symbolizations of the zodiac signs that often appear in Luo’s works, examining how his narrative techniques for constellation theory appear in the expanded use in poems. Chapter Three discusses Luo’s narrative techniques, breaking down the distinctive perspectives through time, space, dreams, and unique split seconds, to reconstruct the original structure of the poetic flavor. Chapter Four revisits Luo’s notion of “abandonment,” exploring the flexible use of language that echoes within the realm of “abandonment,” as well as investigating its origin and the essence of the poetic language through the narration of “abandonment.”
