Abstract
Currently, the themes of many literary works in Taiwan focus on baseball, including biographies of baseball players, reviews of classic baseball games, or novels of related topics. However, those works are rarely written by feminist writers. The present study focuses on the discussion of the literary works of two feminist writers i.e. Tsai Juanru and Miguo and examines: (1) what kinds of aspects are adopted by feminist writers in their baseball writings? (2) how to achieve a balance between the softness of femininity and masculinity in sports in their works? To answer these questions, the content, themes and underlined meanings of their works were analyzed separately. Through the description of the characters and the expression of feelings in their works, the ideology of their writings was closely investigated. Furthermore, with reference to the motivations and values of their writings, the subtle meanings or delicacy of these two feminist writers’ works were observed. Regarding the artistic writing techniques, it is found that through their contrastive description of time and space the aesthetic beauty could still be preserved behind the sport which is full of masculinity.The present study attempts to analyze Tsai’s inner spirit behind the words from the angle of psychology and make a contrast with that of Miguo in order to see these two writers’ positive attitudes towards life. In addition, with reference to the huge differences of their publication background the present study also discuss the advantages and drawbacks of non-digital publications and Internet writings. Finally, regarding the future development of Taiwan’s baseball writings it is hoped that not only baseball writings but also the entire sports literature can play a more important role in Taiwan’s publishing industry.
