Abstract

The extended network span of Long-Reach Ethernet Passive Optical Networks (LR-EPONs) has become a promising access technology due to reducing the expenditure cost and simplifying the Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) architecture Moreover the emergence of the triple-play services makes the current Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) EPONs face a major challenge of how to satisfy various Quality of Service (QoS) requirements of triple-play services efficiently In the study “ONU-based Decentralized Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation (OD-DBA)” the proposed scheme is able to avoid the long Round Trip Time (RTT) issue in LR-EPON and achieve high bandwidth utilization On the other hand the OD-DBA does not concern the priority and the property of the different upstream traffic and cannot satisfy the various applications QoS requirements Therefore the thesis proposes a QoS-Aware Provisioning (QoSAP) scheme to support the transmissions of triple-play services based on the OD-DBA In addition a two stages analytical model by applying M/G/1 and G/G/1 queuing model is developed to analyze the performance of proposed scheme to prove its validity and correctness Finally the effectiveness and efficiency of proposed scheme is confirmed via performing a series of computer simulations
