The zoning control in Taiwan is a legal regulation on land that emphasizes binding land use and density rather than landscape shaping of neighborhood place district etc And that results in high similarity of building and street-block’s fabrics Floor Area Control in Taiwan is one of zoning means and one of its objectives in terms of physical environment is to improve the monotonous built environment The purpose of this research is to describe development patterns of built environment in Kaohsiung city with the same Floor Area Control with quantitative urban morphology measurements describing urban form and activities at the scales of plots and blocks The measurements are Integration measure of Space Syntax calculated by the spatial analysis software DepthmapX building density measure by Floor Space Index(FSI) Ground Space Index(GSI) Layer(L) and Open Space Ratio(OSR) of Spacemate and land-use mixture level of Mixed-use Index (MXI) The research area includes 5 units from Yancheng Sanmin Zuoying Nanzi District The result shows different development patterns of residential areas with the same Floor Area Control from the centre to suburb The units in the city centre developing earlier have a low diversity of development patterns while those recently developing are relatively diverse Besides the diversity of units with a generally larger area of a building plot is relatively high showing more high-rise types Therefore this study believes that promoting the diversity of development pattern needs to encourage a larger area of building plots for giving more open space and design flexibility for building types
