A Study on the Relationships among Supervisor Leadership Group Cohesion and Job Satisfaction of Operators: Evidence from the Metal Machining Industry

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore the relationships between supervisor leadership and operators’ job satisfaction as well as the mediating effect of group cohesion In this paper we adopted purposive sampling and handwritten questionnaires to select fifteen metal machining manufacturers from TSMMA (Taiwan Sheet Metal Management Association) A total of 300 questionnaires were distributed from December 14th to December 28th in 2020 After eliminating invalid questionnaires 219 questionnaires of them were valid The conclusions of this paper are summarized as follows: 1 Supervisor leadership (modeling the way inspiring a shared vision challenging the process enabling others to act and encouraging the heart) showed a significant and positive effect on job satisfaction and group cohesion respectively 2 Ggroup cohesion showed a significant and positive effect on job satisfaction 3 Both task cohesion and social cohesion exerted a full mediation effect on the relation between modeling the way and job satisfaction respectively 4 Both task cohesion and social cohesion exerted a partial mediation effect on the relation between inspiring a shared vision and job satisfaction respectively 5 Both task cohesion and social cohesion exerted a full mediation effect on the relation between challenging the process and job satisfaction respectively 6 Both task cohesion and social cohesion exerted a partial mediation effect on the relation between enabling others to act and job satisfaction respectively 7 Both task cohesion and social cohesion exerted a partial mediation effect on the relation between encouraging the heart and job satisfaction respectively
