Abstract

With the advance of technology people are demanding on the quality of image High dynamic range(HDR) is a kind of image format which can maintain more information than ordinary image Even though the HDR image can display on high-end monitor directly but the cost of high-end monitor should be considered In this thesis an adaptive tone reproduction algorithm based on human visual system is proposed to make the HDR image display on ordinary monitor with good visual quality The architecture of the proposed algorithm composed of two main parts: Firstly the format of the image is detected and data values are extracted Next a tone mapping curve is applied to make the image visible Secondly a local contrast enhancement method is applied In the local part of the algorithm the whole image is divided into a number of non-overlapping blocks each of them is adjusted according to the characteristics of the block followed by a distant weighting function to eliminate blocking effect In addition to HDR natural image processing the proposed algorithm is refactored to apply on aerial image processing The result shows that the proposed algorithm can produce low dynamic range(LDR) images with good visual quality
