An Urban Design Study on the Business District Extension of Nangang Station in Taipei

Abstract

Nangang Train Station area is the new main transportation of Taipei City The function of the station first was only for transport Now it contains more possibility of activities such as business entertainment culture and society service etc It becomes a new center where people live work and have fun The current program is only focus on a few block instead of Integrating Urban environment Urban Fabric has been split-up cars and Pedestrian space become discontinuous Nowadays ‘Plans for a redevelopment of east’ of Taipei Urban Renaissance has made the development of Nangang Train Station area more importance once again Also expecting extend station’s face value and promote the development of surrounding cities This dissertation by means of literature collection investigation and analyzation to sort out the traffic evolution context of Nangang Train Station area Viewing position of Nangang Train Station area its related future development direction and current situation of environmental development Furthermore this study attempt to use different kinds of unstable factors as the direction for space improvement Then assess what is suitable for the entire Nangang Train Station area through case-comparison study and analysis as design reference Finally promote planning design strategies that correspond user requirements and urban development What follows is strategies of space development in this dissertation: (a) Increase the connectivity between Nangang Train Station and Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center Station (b) Create friendly pedestrian zone and provide user-friendly Urban space Connect the open space via pedestrian zone also strengthen purpose of the public place After all promote dynamic activity on the trail to enrich the experience on public space (c) Shape a new station gateway Intensify the aggregation effect of the masses via natural environment and open space to create urban public life (d) Placing various function of space can not only continue the original business activity but also supply the insufficiency of Nangang Industrial chain Moreover variety of activities generate new vitality (e) By using the space development in this dissertation to promote environmental quality economic development and land value of this zone
