Farm ponds have the functions of irrigation flood detention water retention sedimentation ecological environment protection recreation etc which are extremely important for water resources storage The loss of water storage capacity due to added sediments needs to be addressed urgently In this study the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software FLOW-3D is used to simulate and analyze the hydraulic model of farm pond with different configurations of sand removal pipe and after comparing simulation results with hydraulic model test results we know that we can obtain the physical quantity and the flow of water body in hydraulic test by numerical simulation Setting up sand removal pipe can effectively increase the influence range of flow velocity and turbulent energy; increasing the diameter of the hole on sand removal pipe will only increase the flow rate the change of flow field in the tank is tiny and there is no significant difference in the influence range of flow velocity and turbulence energy
